Our Story

The Early Days

Harvest Baptist Church has deep roots in the Albany area, with a story shaped by God’s faithfulness and the faith of His people. In 1964, Pastor T.J. Smith started a church in his living room, calling it Faith Baptist Temple. As the church grew, it moved from the Veterans’ Memorial Hall to its own building downtown, eventually becoming Albany Bible Baptist Church and continuing to shine the light of Christ in the community.

Meanwhile, in 1981, Pastor Bill Rench launched Harvest Baptist Church in Corvallis. Over the years, Harvest met in various locations and under different pastors until, in 1990, Pastor T.J. Smith once again stepped into leadership. With Harvest thriving and Albany Bible Baptist standing strong, God led both congregations to take a bold step of faith: uniting into one church family. The merger brought the two stories together, keeping the name Harvest Baptist Church and a shared vision to make a difference in Albany.

Today, Harvest continues to build on that legacy—committed to helping people in Albany and beyond encounter Jesus, connect deeply with one another, and live out their faith in the world.
